Indie Cred Restored
Despite the fact I had zero energy last night, I trudged out to the Casbah to see the We Are Scientists show. I got there a little early and caught a couple songs from the first opener (Foreign Born, I believe) and all of the second opener, The Grates. I don’t know what is up with the trend of all dudes and a chick singer, but hey, you gotta love that. The Grates are Ozzies (From Australia) and they were very fun. The singer had this cute Bjork vibe about her. Now while all of this was happening, I was watching Keith, the lead singer from WAS work the crowd. Lots of the indie chicks getting autographs and schmoozing him up. Nice. I saw a bunch of the Indie hipsters I was expecting at the last show, but I was trying to stay low key. The only person who noticed me was Tim from 94/9. He’s sweet - he told me that I have excellent taste in music. (He does seem to be at every show that I am these days....)
So the main event....wow. Can I say wow? They started off with my favorite song “This Scene Is Dead”. They meandered through all of the songs on their album and had me completely captivated. They played “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt” in the middle of the set. Keith lost his mic during the middle and the crowd sang the chorus for him. Awesome. Keith and Chris were very talkative between songs and that always adds to the atmosphere of a show. I did stay to the end and bought merch - very cool tee and of course buttons for me and The Guy.
Then I headed to Lamp which was like a foreign world, so I bailed halfway into my drink and went home. I got to sleep in today, but I don’t get a breather...Devlin Jones Band tonight at Lamp. Be there or be L7.
P.S. If you have some time to kill, go check out the WAS - they do all the updates themselves - as a matter of fact, the dealbreaker with their label was they weren’t going to give up control of the site. They almost walked away from their deal...that gives them a bunch of indie cred. But more than that, their site is cool - very funny and quirky.
