Go.See.This.Band
I ventured out early tonight to catch Murder By Death at SOMA’s Sidestage. A little about Murder By Death if you are not familiar (you should be, I’ve posted them before!) They are a quartet from Indiana. The unique thing about this quartet? That would be Sarah, the cello player. (If you want to get the whole story, you can read their wiki.)
So before I get into their show, let me say that I really love the Sidestage. You can walk in and hang at the very back and still see everything which is awesome since I am not a tall girl. I got there in the middle of the second opener (more on that in a sec). During the set change, I moved a lot closer as a lot of the people up front left to go meet the other band. I soon discovered that I was surrounded by Murder By Death fans, who were really into the set and singing along with Adam. The band was completely engaging visually. They had this really cool backdrop and all of them were charismatic on stage. Their sound is just so huge. Sarah’s cello added this really southern goth feel to everything. And Adam was the epitome of a great frontman - telling the crowd about the songs, listening to the crowd and lulling us into a sonic coma with his voice. “Dynamite Mine” and “Brother” were two standout tracks from their set. They were solid for the 45 minutes that they were on stage. I bailed right after they were done. As did most of my fellow “I was only here to see Murder By Death” fans.
My decision to leave so early had everything to do with the second opening band, This Providence. They are your typical style over substance band that the 16 year old girls swoon for. I was watching some of their fans during “Murder By Death” and I could see the looks of “huh”? on their faces. I don’t do well with that mindset and since I’ve already seen Hush Sound, I was so out. Plus, I have a few more days of shows and I am not one to blow my proverbial load early.
All right, laundry needs to go into the dryer. Have at the song in the listen section.
